Coaching and Mentoring
(£75 + VAT per hour)

Got a problem? Want some advice or a sounding board?

Let us share our knowledge and career experiences to help you develop yours. Confidential coaching and mentoring sessions are available on an hourly basis (via video call where possible for a more personal atmosphere, or in face-to-face sessions).

If you’re looking for more than a single session, we can set up a series of sessions to help you set goals and stay on track over time.

We can help you with:

  • Setting up a new programme office – what to do first, how to set up services and run them
  • How to integrate projects and workstreams within a programme so that common themes are identified
  • Moving from a permanent to contract employment model (getting ready, finding work, running a company, creating a social media presence, behaviours once you are on site, etc.)
  • How to run Lessons Learned reviews to elicit problems and identify actionable improvement actions

“Ken spent time with me when I was first looking to go contracting; he provided tips on and opportunities to network with other PMO professionals. We have bashed our heads together on several occasions about PMO process which I have found useful. Always a pleasure to speak to, his passion for Proper PMO is evident!”

Kate G, Portfolio Analyst

“Ken’s friendly and professional approach coupled with his PMO knowledge is what makes him an excellent mentor and coach within this field. He helped me to realise my professional value when I’d lost all hope of getting back to work.

He reviewed my CV and gave me the push I so desperately needed. Once I updated my CV with his suggestions, I went from getting no agency call backs and interviews to landing a fixed term contract within a matter of weeks!

I would happily recommend Ken”

Michelle H, Project Analyst

  • Facilitated ~2h workshop for up to 20 people

Travel up to 100 miles included; other locations subject to arrangement.

“I saw Ken speak on Learning Lessons at this year’s Project Challenge in London.

I was impressed with his delivery style and totally sold on the message.

Since then I invited Ken to host a workshop at HSSMI to fire up the interest and encourage our project engineers to think more about the process and thinking behind lessons learned.

A very engaging afternoon for all, with some very specific, dare I say ‘pragmatic’ take-away actions for me and the team to implement.
Great job Ken, Thanks!”

Scott Newcombe, Programme Manager, HSSMI

If you want the benefit of an invigorated approach to learning lessons from projects…

“Ken is a master of getting the best out of lessons learned workshops.

He creates a relaxed and fun environment where there is an absence of blame, and ensures there is a balanced contribution from all attendees.

The outcome is a set of tangible learnings that can be easily translated back into the working day which enriches the project, the people and ultimately ensures better results for everyone.”

Emma Lurie, Head of Space, ASOS

If you want to benefit from independently run lessons-gathering and action capture…

Programme delivery support
(medium term engagement, fees by agreement)

Got something big going on?

Are you a programme director running a large, strategic change programme? Are you well versed in the business side of what you ’s ‘re but needs some help with the project or programme management side of things?

We can help with that.

We understand what you want

…because we have been where you are now, having spent several years delivering projects (from regulation to relocation) across sectors as diverse as Engineering and Insurance. And we have the scars to prove it.

We understand what the Portfolio PMO wants

…because we have led and worked in Portfolio Offices developing and implementing P3M governanceassurance and methodology, and improving reporting approaches.

We know what your CxO stakeholders want

…because we have extensive experience of gathering data and transforming it into meaningful Management Information for CxOs. We can create a dynamic programme schedule and use it to seek out potential problems and overcome them.

We have a knack of ensuring there is just enough process and documentation in place to make sure things are being done robustly and justifiably, but not so much that it interferes with Getting Things Done.

Sure, a lowest-common-denominator project support person would cost less, but would they represent better value? Do you want someone who can just keep your documentation up to date, or do you want someone who can create it all from scratch, who understands what it means, who actively seeks out gaps and then does something about them?

Do you want someone to knock a few items off your To Do list and make a few holes in your diary, or someone who can read the situation and produce what you need before you even ask for it?

You know, support you can lean on?

“Ken and I worked together for 18 months on a large insurance change programme in 2013/14 and I have no hesitation in recommending Ken as a ‘best of breed’ Programme Office Manager.

His help and support in all stages of the Programme, from setup (including recruitment and on boarding) through reporting and risks management, to implementation and delivery was consistent and thorough.

His ability to rationalise many disparate work stream strands into one integrated Programme Plan meant that we were able to highlight key dependencies/risks and manage/mitigate accordingly. When we encountered particularly complicated challenges as part of the design phase, his engineering background provided added value, allowing us to clearly explain to stakeholders the options and challenges.

His experience and drive means that he can be relied upon to deliver quality, even when faced with the tightest deadlines and challenging demands.

His ability to provide what you need – even before you realise what it is! – is invaluable.

Ken is a consummate team player and loyal colleague. Given the opportunity, I would be very keen to work with him again.”

Robina Sutch, Transission Consulting

So, what are you going to do?

You know what to do…

Project Portfolio support
(medium term engagement, fees by agreement)

Need some extra brain power in your portfolio or enterprise PMO?

Are you a portfolio or enterprise PMO Manager who needs some intelligent help to implement some changes, or bolster or streamline an existing framework?

We can help with that.

We understand what you want

…because we have been where you are now, having led and worked in Portfolio Offices developing and implementing P3M governanceassurance and methodology, and improving reporting approaches.

We understand what the PM Customers want

…because we have spent several years delivering projects (from regulation to relocation) across sectors as diverse as Engineering and Insurance. And he has the scars to prove it.

We know what your CxO customers want

…because we have extensive experience of gathering data and transforming it into meaningful Management Information for CxOs. We are dedicated challengers of “Watermelon” and “Green Side Up” status reporting, and are used to ensuring portfolios live within their means.

We have a knack of ensuring there is just enough process and documentation in place to make sure things are being done robustly and justifiably, but not so much that it gets in the way of your project portfolio delivering your organisation’s change strategy.

We can help you and your PMs get the basics right, embedding lessons of the past into the corporate memory as streamlined processes or personal stories, so that you can raise your aim to improve your PMO’s game.

Sure, a lowest-common-denominator project support person would cost less, but would they represent better value? Do you want someone who will just chase reports and point out typos, or do you want someone who can create it all from scratch, who understands what it means, who actively seeks out gaps and then does something about them?

Do you want someone to knock a few items off your To Do list and make a few holes in your diary, or someone who can read the situation and produce what you need before you even ask for it?

You know, support you can actually lean on?

“I brought Ken into the EMEA regional PMO to bring PMO oversight to a portfolio of Finance-related projects, and to make improvements to PMO processes in the areas of Financial Management and Stage Gate Reviews.

Ken built good professional relationships with the programme teams, helping them through AIG’s Project Management Lifecycle.

He also delivered two significant PMO process improvements: a Finance Report using data extracted from HP PPM Center via SAP Business Objects to give more visibility of financial year budgets (together with monthly splits of expense by resource type); and a project Stage Gate Review and Checklist template. He has backed up both of these with process documentation and Quick Reference Guides.

Ken’s approach is friendly but professional, and I would recommend him to anyone looking to augment their PMO team with robust, good quality services whilst making real process improvements.

Eoin Byrne, Head of Programme Management Office
